Style Roundup by Diedre Johnson

TARAJI P. HENSON

On TV she’s hot-tempered Cookie Lyon and has her own special style. Off screen, Henson (above) is less blingy but shares with her alter ego a love of make-up. Henson started her own brand of Viva Glam lipsticks (right) and gloss through MAC cosmetics in 2017. Yet some of her go-tos are less celebrated. The actress is said to favour shea butter, a super-moist paste full of fatty acids that really does feel like butter on your skin. Even better, it can be bought for (chaching!) about $10. She did a social media shout-out after getting a gift bag containing Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Cleansing Bar (right), a skin brightener that helps to even melanin and prevent acne and scarring.

BEYONCÉ

This is truly Queen Bey’s (right) world, and we just live in it. The sultry songstress drops hit-making albums, videos and little bits of her life on Instagram, but we probably never know all. What we do know is that while she can afford gazillion-dollar beauty products, some of the products found in her dressing rooms while on tour prove that either she or her make-up artists are very practical. How about a little Maybelline Great Lash mascara (right), the brand name on many a teenage girl’s first make-up list? Yep, the stuff still retails for under $10. Then there’s Nars eye shadows and blush (right), easily found online. And for leaving a good impression on her public or for kissing hubby Jay-Z, there’s good ’ol Listerine.

KHLOE KARDASHIAN

During her pregnancy, Khloe Kardashian (left) went high-low: mixing high-end beauty products with lower-priced, less expensive ones. One high-end product was the pricey La Mer cream (below), used by celebrities everywhere. Khloe reportedly mixed the cream (retailing for $125 and upwards) with Vitamin E oil (about $15) before going to bed. Another cheap Khloe find is the Luxurious 24K Gold BioCollagen Facial Mask by Pro Natural (below, about $7 online). “I’ll give myself a facial with this collagen-infused version the night before a big shoot, so that my skin is plump and moisturised,” she said on her Khloe.com website.

MEGHAN MARKLE

She’s a royal now, but before she met Harry, Markle (above) used to have a popular blog (“The Tig”), where she revealed her beauty secrets, among other things. One is Nivea Q10 Plus Firming Body Lotion ($6.49, above). Another is tea tree oil (above right). The classic oil has long been used for bruises and insect bites. It too can be found for about $7. “It’s inexpensive, it’s small enough to carry on, and I bring it with me all the time,” she told Allure.com.

BLAKE LIVELY

She played a fashionista in Gossip Girl, and Blake Lively (above) is known for her stunning real-life style too. She also has a few beauty secrets up her sleeve. One is mayonnaise on the ends of her hair so it doesn’t dry out. Yep, good ol’ mayonnaise – it’s been around a long time and can be found at your local supermarket. Stock up on some for your sandwiches and your hair. Lively, the 2016 L’oréal Paris spokeswoman, reportedly still uses the company’s products, including L’oréal Brow Stylist Frame & Set, retailing for $15.50, and the Telescopic Mascara ($26.95, right) – and lots of it, according to her stylists.
